Whereas open world content can be tackled by just about anyGenshin Impactteam, the Spiral Abyss demands a more synergized approach.
Genshin Impactintroduced Xilonen in Version 5.1, and it took very little time for the Name Engraver to establish a role in the meta. As a universal Geo Support, not only does Xilonen provide Elemental Shred, but she is also capable of single-target healing. This makes her an extremely valuable character to have, especially since her Elemental Shred can be stacked with that of Kazuha’s. Moreover, as a Natlan character, Xilonen can make use of the Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City, the Artifact Set that provides a bonus to Elemental DMG.
On paper, Xilonen should be a mainstay in the meta, and a recent chart by hxg_diluc all but confirms this. During the latest Spiral Abyss for November 2024, Xilonen ranked second in usage rate, sitting at a very comfortable 83.5%. The only unit more popular was Furina at 85.5%, who is widely considered to be thebest modern Support character inGenshin Impact. Xilonen and Furina tend to form a powerful team core, and characters such as Neuvillette and Navia prefer to have both in their squad. The most popular hypercarry continues to be Neuvillette with a solid 74.4% usage rate.

A very important conclusion that players should draw from the data is that Zhongli will continue to be a comfortable pick for the Spiral Abyss, regardless of meta. TheGenshin Impactcommunity wondered if Xilonen would make the Geo Archon redundant, but Shield Supports are simply too valuable to be discarded outright. This can also be seen withBaizhu inGenshin Impact, who retains a spot among the top ten by being Dendro’s take on Shield Supports.
An argument could be made that this bodes well for Citlali, who is expected to be the game’s third 5-Star Shield Support. Amusingly, Bennett continues to be the most popular4-Star character inGenshin Impact, with a usage rate of 57.9%. It’s no secret that players are hoping the developers provide a 5-Star alternative to Bennett, and many see Mavuika as a strong contender for that role. With Citlali and Mavuika both releasing in Version 5.3, this chart may end up looking rather different in January 2025.
