Over eight months after its February 29 release,Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthreceived a major update that added Versatility Mode for PS5 Pro users, which utilized the console’s enhanced specifications to combine the 4K resolution of Graphics Mode with the higher frames per second (FPS) of Performance Mode. However, Square Enix also shared the news thatFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirthwould not receive any DLCor expansions, unlikeFinal Fantasy 7 Remake. Instead, Square Enix shifted its focus toward the continued development ofFinal Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3.
After taking home four wins at the 2024 Golden Joystick Awards, including best leading and supporting performances,Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s director took time to answer some questions. Inan interview with GamesRadar, Hamaguchi said, “I mean, obviously there’s nothing specific planned at the moment, but I think it’d be a great idea, yes.” Hamaguchi said that he andFinal Fantasy 14director and producer Naoki Yoshida trust each other and frequently discuss the future of theFinal Fantasyseries among other topics. Although acrossover between the twoFinal Fantasygames could take yearsto pan out, someFinal Fantasy 7references are already inFinal Fantasy 14, including the materia system, Cloud’s iconic hairstyle, and bosses such as the Ruby Weapon.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s Director Is Open to Collaborating With FF14
Although Yoshida previously stated he was open to collaborating with theFinal Fantasy 7 Remakegames, he said he would wait until the trilogy had concluded first. Currently,Final Fantasy 14is experiencing a major crossover with another entry in the franchise.The Crossroads content updatebrought the first chapter of the Echoes of Vana’diel alliance raid series into the spotlight, which is a collaboration betweenFinal Fantasy 14and the first MMORPG in the series,Final Fantasy 11. Two more chapters are planned to be released in futureFinal Fantasy 14content patches.
