One Piece, ever since its release in the late ’90s, has been receiving consistent new issues and episodes for almost 30 years. With thousands of chapters and episodes, Oda and his goofy pirate anime have built up one of the best pieces of fiction of all time, outselling the likes of even Superman in the realm of comic books. For many, the secret of the One Piece and its origins is one of the greatest mysteries ever created, and one that keeps readers hooked on every new issue.
However, at this point, the hype ofOne Piecemay be growing to be too large for its own good. So much anticipation has been built up for theFinal Saga ofOne Piecethat anything that Oda releases is going to be placed under high levels of scrutiny. This has led many members of the community to worry that no matter what happens at the end ofOne Piece, they are only going to be met with disappointment.
The Final Saga May Not Stick the Landing
Currently, in recent memory, the endings of many extremely popular anime and manga have been extremely unsatisfying. My Hero Academiakilled Midorya’sdream,Narutofelt rushed,Attack on Titanwas incredibly divisive, and the list goes on. For these longer-form anime, it seems almost impossible to stick the landing. AlthoughOne Piecehas famously never shown any intention of rushing things along, fans are still worried that the show’s ending may not live up to expectations.
I know I’ve been saying Final Saga this and Final Saga that, but it’s not gonna end as quickly as I’m making it sound, so I’d recommend not stressing over it and just reading comfortably.
Additionally, with so many different worlds andamazing characters inOnePiece, bringing every element of the series together in one final ending is going to be almost completely impossible. It’s almost guaranteed that at least one character is going to be left behind and not included in the final arc, disappointing any fans of that specific character. With so many locations and characters, it may be impossible to completely wrap upOne Pieceinto one conducive ending. If any author could accomplish this, however, it’s most likely going to be Oda.
Side Stories Could Continue
With so much worry coming from other anime fumbling their ending and thesheer scope ofOne Pieceitself, it’s no wonder that the fan base is worried about the final arcs of the series. However, the truth is thatOne Piecedoesn’t need to end the world ofOne Piecein one epic conclusion, the final arc only needs to be the thrilling conclusion to Luffy’s story on his quest to become the Pirate King. Any other moments can continue after Luffy completes his goal.
Although Oda definitely deserves a break afterOne Pieceis finished, seeing side stories flesh out the lives of other characters may be the perfect way to take some pressure off of theending ofOne Piece’smain story. For example, even if Law isn’t a major player in the final arc, perhaps his own mini-series that specifically focuses on his motivations and morals, without shoehorning him onto Luffy’s side, would be a more deserving end to a beloved character.
Fans Want This and More
Despite this, creating an epic ending that features every character fans have grown to know and love may be the only way to appease the massiveOne Piececommunity. Creating an extremely intricate and massive arc, akin totheOne Piecearc,Wano, may be the best way to handle the ending to a beloved piece of fiction. No matter what avenue Oda takes, hopefully, the ending ofOne Pieceis something special.
The long story has already been going on for over 25 years.
Until then, fans will just have to wait until the final arc ofOne Piecefinally arrives. Although it’s impossible to tell just how far away Oda is from finishing, the author has already revealed that the series is in its final phases. This means that any day now,One Piececould be entering its final moments. In the end, even if the true ending doesn’t meet expectations, the journey is what made the journey of Luffy and the Straw Hats so special to so many people.
