What is Natsu and Lucy’s Relationship Like?
Natsu and Lucy Have a Bond Like No Other, Fighting to Protect One Another From Harm
Natsu and Lucy have always had a complex relationship due to Natsu’s eccentric personality and Lucy’s timidityabout relationships. However, one thing that has always remained clear is that Natsu and Lucy care for one another, although they are yet to be in a relationship, while many of their friends have committed to each other.
Lucy has always been grateful to Natsu, as he was the person who invited her toFairy Tail, the mage guild Lucy has always wanted to join. As a result, Natsu is an integral part of her development as a mage and who she wishes to be as a person, although he does annoy her at times.
The two share several risque moments throughout the anime, with moments of undress or Natsu barging into Lucy’s room without caring for her privacy. While Lucy would berate Natsu and Happy for their immaturity, she has never felt threatened by his presence in her private space; she likely felt safer with them there.
On the other hand, Natsu has always had a one-track mind, seeking out exciting job posts that would challenge his skills and take him on an adventure. However, since meeting Lucy, he has been fascinated by her and keen to start a friendship with the newest member ofFairy Tail.Although unknown at the time, Natsu admits he always felt calm around Lucy, and it was later discovered that Lucy is the descendent ofAnna Heartfilia, who had been theDragon Slayer’s teacher400 years ago.

Natsu also holds Lucy in high regard, although in Chapter 4, he calls her a weirdo; he also says she is a reliable person as she was able to assist him in the battle with the fake Salamander. Previously, Natsu and Happy would travel together, taking on jobs and working together as best friends. However, after witnessing how reliable Lucy can be, Natsu, enticed byPlue, a Celestial Spirit, suggests making a team with Lucy. Natsu may have seen Lucy’s determination and skill as a mage and wanted to assist her during missions, making difficult requests much easier.
Like many others in the guild, Natsu and Lucy’s relationship was formed under the bonds they share as “Nakama.” However, as seen many times throughout the series, Natsu and Lucy genuinely care for one another and fight to protect the other from harm. While this could be true for many members of Fairy Tail, Natsu, and Lucy have an unshakable bond.
As Lucy is more in tune with her feelings than Natsu, it’s possible that she does have feelings for Natsu; however, Natsu’s dense and childish personality may have dampened any possible relationship for the time being. There have also been instances in which the guild has teased the two for liking one another. In Chapter 43 ofFairy Tail:100 Years Quest, Lucy learns that Touka has feelings for Natsu by Cana; while Lucy blushes and becomes flustered, she is aware of Natsu’s personality and that he has no interest in relationships.

Edolas is a parallel world to Earthland, and there is no magic. This world also has counterparts of individuals residing on Earthland with different personalities from them. InFairyTail: 100 Years Quest,Team Natsu, which now consists of Natsu, Lucy, Happy,Erza,Gray, Wendy, and Carla, has found their way back to Edolas and met its counterparts who have aged 9 years.
To their shock, they learned that Edo-Natsu and Edo-Lucy had married and had a child named Nasha. The Edolas counterparts have demonstrated that even though the two worlds are parallel, the relationships that have yet to form in Earthland have already taken place in Edolas, which is likely due to the Earthland counterparts feeling flustered or shy at beginning a relationship.
The Edolas counterparts could be a sneak peek into the possible future if the Earthland counterparts were to be in a relationship. Although Edo-Lucy, Natsu, Gray, and Juvia have already started a family, it sheds light on what their children would look like in the future, as Earthland Natsu and Gray have already had their fatherly instincts worked up at the sight of their children interacting.
Though no matter where you look, Natsu and Lucy have always been depicted as being in a relationship. In theFairy Tail: 100 Years Quest, Team Natsu comes across a group of doppelgangers who live ordinary lives in a celebrity guild called Fairy Nail. In this guild, they encounter Nack and Lucia, a star actor and manager who look similar to them; this is also where they learn the two are in an intimate relationship and all the “bullying” was just for show.
The Return of Lisanna
Lisanna Could be Lucy’s Love Rival, But Natsu Seems to Have No Interest in Relationships
Lisanna and Natsu had a very close relationship when they were younger; they played together as they were close in age. Natsu found Happy’s Egg, and they worked together to raise Happy when he was a kitten. During their time playing house withHappy’s Egg,Lisannacould tear down the wall Natsu had built, allowing them to get closer.
At that time, Natsu was aloof from the rest ofthe guild, and aside from fighting with Gray, he would often be alone. Lisanna broke Natsu’s habit, which allowed him to get closer to the rest of the guild. Unlike the Natsu of the present, the Natsu of the past was well aware of relationships and what it meant to take a wife, as he would often blush at Lisanna when she mentioned becoming his wife.
After it was learned that Lisanna had died during a mission, her supposed death shattered the guild, and it was no longer the same afterward. After it was found that Lisanna was still alive, Natsu and Happy were overjoyed that their old friend was still alive. While Lisanna still somewhat had a crush on Natsu, Natsu was happy that Lisanna was still alive after so many years.
