With the current console generation now in its latter half, thePlayStation 5has enjoyed tremendous amounts of success with over 65 million units sold and record profits for Sony. More importantly, though, PlayStation’s first-party teams have pumped out a plethora of critically acclaimed games for thePS5in the past four years, such asGod of War Ragnarok,Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, theDemon’s Soulsremake,Astro Bot,Gran Turismo 7,Horizon Forbidden West, and many more.
However, many PlayStation fans wonder what this future output looks like. Sony has a stable of over 19 first-party studios, but a lot of PlayStation teams have been rather quiet about their in-development projects for a while. Going forward, though,Sony promises major tentpole PS5 titles on an annual basis, so it’s worth taking a look at the rumored games PlayStation fans may see from its first-party studios in the coming years.
Rumored Games in Development at PlayStation’s Biggest First-Party Studios
Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studio, Guerrilla Games, and Insomniac Games are four of the most prominent studios under the PlayStation banner. Out of these, Naughty Dog has gone the longest time without releasing a new game. The studio is reportedly developing two projects,a brand-new IP andThe Last of Us3. As for which one will release first, rumors claim thatNaughty Dog’s new IP will be its next game. Another team working on anew IP is Santa Monica, but that’s not all, as the studio is purportedly developingthe next mainlineGod of Warentryand aspin-off title centered around Atreusas well (which could easily be one and the same).
Game studios are often very secretive about their projects, so the rumored PlayStation games discussed here should be taken with a grain of salt.
Guerrilla is the overseer of the highly successfulHorizonfranchise, so it isn’t very surprising that the studio is working on moreHorizongames. It was confirmed in 2022 that Guerrilla has amultiplayerHorizongame and a third mainline entryin some stage of production, butreports of aHorizonMMORPGdeveloped in collaboration with Korean studio NCSoft have been bubbling for a while. Last but not least is Insomniac, where the December 2023 data breach leaked the studio’s entire game release roadmap for the next nine years, featuring heavy hitters likeMarvel’s Spider-Man 3, aVenomSpin-off, a newRatchet and Clankentry, and even anX-Mengame.
Every Rumored PlayStation First-Party Game in Development
As far as upcoming projects from other PlayStation studios go, Firesprite’s prior job listings heavily imply that it’s developing anUntil Dawnsequel. Further lending credence to this rumor are the extended ending sequences in the recently releasedUntil Dawnremake that tease a continuation of the story.
Nixxes Software cut its teeth in the PlayStation Studios roster with high-quality PC ports of PS4 and PS5 games. With the studio leading the development ofHorizon Zero Dawn Remastered, though, Sony might be expanding Nixxes' role beyond just the company’s PC porting team. Conveniently enough, Nixxes was recently rumored to be working on acollection of remastered GreekGod of Wargames. These remasters will purportedly be released in 2025 to commemorate theGod of Warseries' 20th anniversary, so fans won’t have to wait long to see if this rumor pans out.
Rumored games aside, there’s an entire PlayStation team whose existence is unconfirmed at the moment. This studio is reportedly beingset up with talent from Deviation Games, a nascent team that Sony partnered with two years ago. Unfortunately, Deviation Games had to close its doors earlier this year after facing financial hardships, layoffs, and key creator exits, including one of Deviation’s co-founders, Jason Blundell. Interestingly, Blundell is supposedly leading this mysterious PlayStation studio, but it’s yet to be determined what he and the team are working on. The running theory is that the Blundell-led studio could be continuing Deviation’s game, but it’ll likely take several years until this is confirmed.
