Summary

TheDragon Ballfranchise has contributed many things to anime that have since become a staple of the industry, with some of the most notable aspects introduced by the series being its iconic Ki attacks. While certainly not the first,Dragon Ballis undoubtedly the anime that has popularized the typical energy-based Ki attacks that have since permeated almost every Shonen franchise afterward.

However, as iconic as the typical Kamehameha is or howeverdestructive a Final Flash may be, some attacks in the series are just plain goofy. However, this isn’t to say that they’re useless or bad at all, since, despite their weird nature in how they’re performed or just how they look, they are mostly incredibly powerful. So, in this article, let’s take a look at the strangest moves in the entireDragon Ballfranchise.

Devilman in Dragon Ball and Frieza in Dragon Ball Z

Story Arc

Fortuneteller Baba Saga

Appearing in earlyDragon Ball,Devilman is a villainwho most fans of the franchise have forgotten about and only remember when he is mentioned. Still, though, his introduction into the series was a memorable one and his signature attack, the Devilmite Beam, had the potential to be the most powerful attack in the entire series due to the nature of how it worked.

Even the most sweet-faced little goody-goody has a drop of evil in his heart. I can make that little drop in you expand and expand and expand until… You’re blown to bits!

Had it not been retconned, Devilman could have taken down the series' most dangerous villains easily. Because of the attacks' inherent ability to bypass any defenses and amplify any of his opponent’s negative or dark feelings, he can make the feelings so strong that the target explodes from the swell of negative emotions inside them. This remains one of the most unconventional and strongest moves inDragon Ballbefore it got nerfed.

Emperor Pilaf Saga

Although he is the resident punching bag of the Z-Fighters and the butt of many of the series' most hilarious jokes, Yamcha is actually one of themost powerful humans in the worldand has been a warrior for most of his life. Nowadays, he isn’t close to as powerful as the other heroes and his relevance regarding his time in the originalDragon Ballshow has waned greatly, but some techniques of his are still pretty strong.

Every time I see that power of yours I realize how lucky I am that we’re on the same side!

One such technique is the Wolf Fang Fist. However, while it is a formidable Martial Arts Technique, it is fairly strange for several reasons; namely how Yamcha uses Ki to reinforce his regular Ki physical attacks, how he makes his hands claw-like, as well as the peculiar howling that accompanies the whole thing. Still, though, the Wolf Fang Fist is one of the Yamcha’s signature moves and is pretty powerful in its own right.

User: Captain Ginyu

First Appearance

Dragon Ball Z, Episode 71, “Goku is Ginyu and Ginyu is Goku”

Namek Saga

When thinking of ‘weird’ aspects of theDragon Ballfranchise, the very concept of Captain Ginyu and the Ginyu Force are close to the top of the list.At the time of his appearance within the story, Captain Ginyu was a very powerful warrior who proved to be a great obstacle for the heroes to overcome, especially when he used his special Body Change technique on Goku.

That body of yours is pretty strong… Yes… and I think I’ll take it!

This is an incredibly effective move if used and timed correctly, but the way it is performed is pretty strange. Once the user’s body has been swapped with that of his target, he gets access to all of the target body’s strength and skills as well as some of their special techniques while the target is left in Ginyu’s body. If Ginyu himself has sustained a lot of damage before the swap, this attack is very useful.

Buu Saga

Gotenks is a fan-favorite character who also holds the title of the youngest fusion of them all, due to his constituents being Trunks and Goten. Because of this, his strength is amazing but he is very rowdy and childish, which can be seen withhis entire unique move set. From donuts made of Ki that he can control fully to encasing his opponents in Ki to play volleyball, Gotenks has the most distinct attacks of allDragon Ballcharacters.

As strange as it sounds, Gotenks has burped out what appears to be a ghost of himself.

However, the strangest, and one of the strongest, attacks in his arsenal is the Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack, where he creates many ghosts from his breath who are infused with his Ki. Not only that, but these ghosts can also use attacks just like Gotenks and have their own individual personalities, making this perhaps the strangest, but also one of the coolest, attacks in the entire franchise.

Dragon Ballcan be streamed onCrunchyroll.
