Summary
Dexter: Original Sinwill air on Paramount+ with Showtime on Jun 23, 2025, and excitement is hotting up after the release of the full trailer last week. There were a lot of hints at what’s to come in the 10-episode prequel series. One clip in particular showed a long-haired young Dexter Morgan (portrayed by Patrick Gibson), and this hinted at the code-driven serial killer’s very first kill.
Dexter’s first killwas shown in the originalDexterseries, via a flashback featuring Michael C. Hall playing the younger version of himself with long hair.Young Dexter’s long locks in theOriginal Sintrailer pretty much confirms that this classic scene will be recreated and pay homage to the original depiction, albeit with a different take on it, no doubt.

In the beginning, there was blood and a code I learned from my father. It was simple: kill the bad guys who escaped justice. Don’t get caught myself. So I got myself a job, and it brought the blood to me, while honing my skills with help from the people around me. Learning my code was just the beginning. Bringing it to life for the first time is a whole new story.
Fans are hyped for the release ofDexter: Original Sinthis month, and it looks set to reveal a lot of things fans didn’t know about the killer’s past. However, theOriginal Sintraileralso teases that some key scenes already shown in the originalDexterseries will also make a comeback.Original Sinis set in 1991, and this also happens to be the year thatDexter killed his first ever victim: Nurse Mary. This character was tasked with caring for Dexter’s adoptive father,Harry Morgan, while he suffered heart problems. Turns out, Nurse Mary didn’t possess the correct bedside manner and was actually poisoning Harry with an overdose of morphine. This incident, as well as the discovery that she’d also killed multiple patients in the past, qualified Nurse Mary as a target for Dexter’s first ever kill table.
Dexter Morgan’s long hair inOriginal Sin’s trailer hints at the re-working of this classic scene, and a possible new insight into what actually happened in the lead up to the serial killer’s first major crime.Of course,Michael C. Hall will be narratingOriginal Sinas Dexter’s life flashes before his eyes in acrossover with the upcoming sequel,Resurrection, so it’ll likely play out similarly to how it did in the original series. However, the audience will also get the chance to see the events from the perspective of Harry Morgan, so maybe some of the events weren’t quite how they appeared to be on the surface.
The Wig Michael C. Hall’s Wore During Nurse Mary’s Kill Flashback Has Become Derived And Celebrated In Equal Measure
Michael C. Hall’s acting skills can never be questioned, especially when it comes to his depiction of iconic serial killer. Dexter Morgan. He has perfectly portrayed the blood spatter analyst for nearly 20 years, and will reprise the role inOriginal SinandResurrection, meaning there is plenty more to come from the character. However, there is one sequence in the originalDexterseries that has received its fair share of criticism from many fans of the show, and it relates to the flashback sequence of Dexter killing Nurse Mary.Instead of hiring a younger actor to portray Dexter 15 years before the events of the first season, Michael C. Hall played the younger version of the character, albeit with a very dubious wig intact. This was long before the mainstream use of de-aging technology, so Michael C. Hall literally looks the same, apart from his fake hairdo. A 35-year-old man wearing a wig while playing a 21-year-old definitely wasn’tDexter’s finest hour, butit has led to memes and general amusement from the fans, as opposed to outright hate toward the flashback scene.
On ther/Dexter Reddit thread, there was a discussion about Michael C. Hall’s flashback wig scene, and redditor, Definition_of_tragic wrote:
I will forever hate the fact that they chose to put him in terrible wigs instead of just casting another actor to play younger dexter. Those wigs didn’t even make him look younger, just foolish.
Another redditor, High_Star_ was more lighthearted about the use of the wig:
Seeing him in the flashbacks with the wigs always had me laughing.
The wig doesn’t take away from the brilliant acting on show in the scene, and Dexter’s first ever kill is still an iconic moment, and it’s good to see thatOriginal Sinlooks like it’s going to pay homage, rather than shy away from it.
