Dauntlessis a free-to-play action RPGdeveloped by Phoenix Labs, where players hunt massive creatures known as Behemoths. It emphasizes cooperative multiplayer and features cross-platform play across PC, consoles, and mobile devices. NowDauntlessis bringing a new way for players to experience the game.
The Awakening update is bringing big changes to the game’s core mechanics. Phoenix Labs has announced that it will phase out some long-standing systems, like the Reforge mechanic, and make gear progression more straightforward. With this update, players will get a new leveling systemforDauntlessweaponsand armor, and any progress they’ve already made will carry over to the new setup. Unique weapons and armor pieces will be turned into transmog cosmetics, so veteran players can keep showing off the gear they worked hard to earn.
For those who’ve put a lot of time into the Reforge system, there’s some good news: exclusive cosmetic rewards, like the Crest of the Reforged and Crest of the Committed crowns, will be given to recognize their efforts. Plus, from November 29 to December 3, a double XP event will give everyone one last chance to boost their gear before the update rolls out. The Awakening update is revamping the gear system by introducing a new way to level up equipment, boosting player performance while doing away with crafting mechanics for certain items.
Players will also notice big changes to the lineup of weapons. For those with large weapon collections, weapon tokens will provide a helpful boost in getting new gear. Lanterns, a key part ofDauntless’ monster-slaying gameplay, are also getting an overhaul. Phoenix Labs is simplifying them into a single customizable lantern, with the gameplay effects they used to offer now being built directly into weapons. Additionally, the Hunt Pass system is being merged into a single-season pass that lasts only for the duration of the current season.
Alongside the Awakening update, the developers have revealed thatDauntlesswill be launching on Steam, making the game more accessible to a wider audience.
