Willingham went on to say its recent collaborations with other games, such astheCritical RolexAmong Uscrossover, thePillars of Eternity 2DLC, and Exandrian characters inIdle Champions of the Forgotten Realms, were “little toe dips in the pool just to see how it feels.” He also recognized that, between rampant layoffs and the controversies involving generative AI in gaming, there was “a lot of upheaval in the interactive space right now,” soCritical Roleis “trying to become smarter about it and find out how we might fit into that larger ecosystem.”

Right now, fans can only speculate as to what announcementCritical Roleis planning. From aBaldur’s Gate 3-style RPG or a Soulslike hack-and-slash to an MMO set in Exandria or even a dating simulator featuring the main cast ofCritical Role, there are a lot of directions such a project could go.
