Reshoots are not new to big-budget major Hollywood productions, including Marvel movies. For instance,The Avengers(2012),Thor: The Dark World(2013),Avengers: Age of Ultron(2015),Doctor Strange(2016),Thor: Ragnarok (2017),Avengers: Endgame(2019),Black Widow(2021),Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness(2022), Thor: Love and Thunder(2022), andAnt-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania(2023) all did reshoots before their release dates. Among the reasons they did reshoots were to add humor to the film and balance the darker tone and lightheartedness, address pacing issues and enhance action scenes, and highlight some characters' presence. For instance,Ant-Man 3did reshoots to adjust the plot points and give Kang the Conqueror more scenes to solidify the character as a huge threat to the future MCU phases. The nextAvengersmovies were supposed to focus onKang the Conqueror, who was portrayed by Jonathan Majors. However, Marvel fired Majors and scrapped his lined-up MCU movies following his conviction of two domestic violence charges.Avengers 5was initially titledAvengers: The Kang Dynasty, but it had been changed toAvengers: Doomsdaywith the introduction of Robert Downey Jr., this time not as the beloved Iron Man, but as supervillain Doctor Doom.
