Summary
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6is going to let fans use their legacy XP tokens. When it first launched,Call of Duty: Black Ops 6did not let fans utilize XP tokens that they earned in previousCall of Dutygames andWarzone. That changed whenBlack Ops 6Season 1 launched, though the ability to activate legacy XP tokens was quickly rescinded.
Call of Dutyfans figured out workarounds to use their legacy XP tokens inBlack Ops 6, likeredeeming them inWarzoneand then switching back overto the new game. Still, many called on Treyarch and Activision to letCall of Dutyplayers simply activate their legacy XP tokens inBlack Ops 6itself.
Treyarch has now issued a statement on the matter. It seems that a bug caused legacy XP tokens to appear inBlack Ops 6with thestart of Season 1, and that this “introduced some potential risk to game stability.” That supposed risk to game stability is why Treyarch disabled legacy XP tokens inBlack Ops 6. But because of the community backlash, Treyarch is “testing a way to implement this change correctly in a future update.” More information is coming next week, but the takeaway is that at some point in the future,Black Ops 6players will once again be able to use their legacy XP tokens in the game.
Black Ops 6 Will Soon Let You Use Legacy XP Tokens
While fans wait for Treyarch to implement the feature properly, the workaround still works. Those that have theCall of Duty: Warzonebattle royale installed can pop into it, redeem their tokens, and then jump back toBlack Ops 6and enjoy their benefits. Those that don’t have any XP tokens can look forward toDouble XP events, though it’s unclear exactly when the next one will take place.
The quick response to theBlack Ops 6legacy XP token controversy is another clear example of Treyarch listening to feedback from fans and acting on it. The developer was previously praised for keeping the Nuketown 24/7 playlist in the gameeven after introducing Stakeout 24/7, as previousCall of Dutygames would have swapped one for the other. That being said, the latest playlist updates have not been as popular, with Treyarch dumping both Nuketown 24/7 and Stakeout 24/7 inCall of Duty: Black Ops 6and introducing a new playlist that combines Nuketown and a Gunfight map inspired by it, Warhead.
