The post-launch content ofCall of Duty: Black Ops 6was given a massive boost recently with the launch of Season One Reloaded on December 5, with this mid-point season milestone being celebrated with a tonne of fresh additions. The timing of Season One Reloaded has seen it be the host of this year’s CODMAS offerings, which have introduced an exciting range of festive rewards, events, and limited-time modes across core multiplayer, Zombies, andWarzone.
Alongside things like new weapons, perks, and attachments, the new maps ofCall of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Season One Reloaded event are arguably the most exciting and game-changing introductions. A total of four new maps have been added toBlack Ops 6thanks to Season One Reloaded, spread across Zombies and multiplayer, with this particular area of post-launch content already having a lot of pressure on it. The launch map pool ofBlack Ops 6, at least concerning standard multiplayer, is the source of a lot of controversy to this day, and while the new maps of Season One Reloaded do not completely address these criticisms, they all do well to offer a great level of ambiance and graphical fidelity that bolsters the gameplay of the recently released title.
The Maps of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Season One Reloaded All Share a Unique Charm
A lot of high hopes existed around the launch of multiplayer maps ofCall of Duty: Black Ops 6before the game came out, with Treyarch stressing how these 16 maps were entirely original experiences with a focus on traditional three-lane design. This was considered great news against the backdrop of the recentModern Warfare 3relying on pre-existing maps from 2009’sMW2for its own launch map pool, yet the execution ofBlack Ops 6’s launch offerings led a lot to be desired.
The launch maps ofBlack Ops 6are considered quite controversial thanks to the over-abundance of small to medium experiences, with many maps also seemingly disregarding the classic three-lane approach that Treyarch spoke extensively of prior to release. This has put a huge amount ofpressure on the post-launch maps ofBlack Ops 6to alleviate these criticisms, and while some of the maps that were introduced at the start of Season One helped with this, the recent Reloaded maps offer a different insight into what can add value to maps in general.
Two of the four Reloaded maps forBlack Ops 6are returning maps from pastBlack Opsgames, withBlack Ops 4’s Hacienda being added to the game alongside asnow-covered festive variant of the iconic Nuketown map. From a design perspective, these two maps already possess the same traditional layouts that some fans want to see more of inBlack Ops 6, yet equal value is present in the environmental ambiance of them both. As a festive map, Holiday Nuketown features constant snowfall that offers a fantastic unique charm to what is otherwise a map that fans have been playing for 14 years, while the golden lighting throughout Hacienda offers a similar impact for an older experience.
Black Ops 6’s Season One Reloaded Maps Are a Huge Step On a Long Road
The last multiplayer map for Season One Reloaded is a smaller Strike map named Racket, with it being much more difficult for these claustrophobic experiences to express themselves in the same way. However, the same successes of Holiday Nuketown and Hacienda have been echoed in the brand-new Zombies map forBlack Ops 6, Citadelle des Morts. Set within a brooding and sinister Medieval castle, the foreboding mistyatmosphere of Citadelle des Mortsis a huge element of the map’s early success, giving most ofBO6’s new maps a new graphical bar that should be the standard going forward.
Of course, it seems much more important that Treyarch focuses on adding more brand-new three-lane maps toBlack Ops 6before anything else, but the kind of unique graphical flair that these recent maps possess is still a fantastic way to make future experiences even more enjoyable and memorable. With Citadelle des Morts only continuing a greatrun of positivity forBlack Ops 6’s Zombies maps, the Season One Reloaded multiplayer additions offer an interesting step towardsBlack Ops 6moving beyond the initial controversies surrounding its launch map pool.
