Dojutsu have always been an important partof theNarutoseries, and this has continued into theBorutoseries as well. Of course, fans know that the mighty Dojutsu, such as the Rinnegan and the Sharingan, have always maintained their position as some of the most important ones in the entire franchise. At the same time, theBorutoseries has gone on and introduced fans to quite a few other new and exciting Dojutsu as well.
Naturally, given the overpowered nature of characters in theBorutoseries, the new dojutsu that have been introduced here have proven to be overpowered themselves. Among these overpowered dojutsu is a unique ability known as the Kokugan, and it has proven to be one of the mightiest, if not the mightiest, dojutsu in the entire series, the powers of which surpass even the six paths.
The Kokugan And Its Powerful Wielders
While the name Kokugan might be surprising to fans, this is an ability that they have most definitely seen in the Boruto series, provided they keep up with it. Simply put, the Kokugan is also known as the black eye, and it is wielded bynone other than incredibly powerful Isshiki Otsutsuki. This ability grants tremendous power to its wielder. In terms of appearance, this eye is rather special. It features a black pupil, as is evident from the name. It also features triangular spokes which combine to form a golden wheel inside the eye. Every time a jutsu is utilized using the Kokugan, the pupil glows golden, indicating the activation of a technique.

This eye allowed Isshiki Otsutsuki to use two jutsu primarily. The first of these jutsu was Sukunahikona, and, as fans know, this technique is incredibly strong, capable of allowing Isshiki to shrink down himself and any other inanimate object to microscopic sizes almost instantly. It can also return objects that have been previously shrunk down to microscopic sizes to their regular sizes instantaneously. Although this technique is rather simple, the way Isshiki utilizes it in combat makes him incredibly dangerous. In fact, even someone with senses as powerful as the Six Paths Sage Mode, who have an understanding of all things in the world, cannot comprehend the speed at which the power of Sukunahikona works. This just goes to show the overpowered nature of this ability, and how dangerous it truly is.
The Power Of Daikokuten
Sukunahikona is not the only ability that the Kokugan offers to the user. There is another ability that can be considered to be even more overpowered in some ways, and this power is none other than the Daikokuten. Just like Sukunahikona, Daikokuten is overpowered in its own way. This ability, simply put, allows the user to access a pocket dimension of sorts, where time doesn’t flow at all. The user can store anything they want in this pocket dimension and, at the same time, jump to this dimension themselves. In a way, this dimension can defeat the concept of time itself, as anything stored there simply doesn’t age or change by even a single second.
The user can also summon giant black cubes from this dimension which possess tremendous weight, and have mighty strength. In fact, even someone as strong as Naruto Uzumaki could not handle these mighty cubes. They even interfere with the sensory perception of the user, which adds to the overpowered nature of the Kokugan even more.
Other Abilities Of The Kokugan
Naturally, this eye has its special abilities, but, on top of them, it also does other small things. For instance, the Kokugan can estimate lifespan with ease. It can even see lifespan in a flame-like pattern, which is a rather unique power that, while quite cool, doesn’t really have many uses. On top of that, fans know that Kokugan has another special power, which is utilizing the power of space-time ninjutsu.
This is a very special ability that makes the Kokugan even more dangerous. Just like Sasuke can rip open portals in the fabric of time-space and go anywhere he wishes, the Kokugan can allow the user to do so as well. This ability is not easy to utilize as it likely takes up quite a lot of chakra, but it certainly is very overpowered and can essentially allow the user to transport themselves to anywhere in the blink of an eye.
As far as the users of the Kokugan go, fans know that Isshiki Otsutsuki, who is known to bea very powerful member of the Otsutsuki clan, was the very first user of this eye. He was seen wielding its powers extensively throughout the first part of the Boruto series, but he isn’t the only user of this ability. As fans know, Kawaki was raised to be Isshiki’s vessel, which means that he also has access to this power. Specifically, Kawaki gained access to the Kokugan after he regained access to Isshiki’s powers through Amado’s reconstructed Karma.
Back then, Kawaki only had two spokes in his eye, which suggested that he wasn’t ready just yet. With further maturation, the eye displayed about four spokes before the time skip. Now, after the 3-year timeskip in theBorutoseries,Kawaki has mastered the Kokugancompletely. He now manifests all eight spokes of the wheel, which suggests full mastery over all of its powers. Undoubtedly, fans absolutely cannot wait to see what Ikemoto has in store for them.
Why The Kokugan Is Incredibly Special
There Is More To Kokugan Than Meets The Eye
The powers of Kokugan itself make it very special, but, there is certainly more to this eye than meets the eye. As fans know, the mightiest dojutsu ability in the world ofNarutoso far was the Rinnegan. The Rinnegan is said to be a part of the Six Paths powers. In fact, in the case of Sasuke Uchiha, fans can see that the Rinnegan is connected to the Six Paths due to six tomoe showing up in the eye. However, in the case of the Kokugan, things are taken one step beyond. The Kokugan manifests eight spokes of the wheel, which suggests that it is an ability that goes beyond even the Six Paths. This goes to show that the Kokugan is the next step of evolution in many ways of a Dojutsu, and that its powers are on an entirely different tier that even the Rinnegan cannot reach.
Of course, the Rinnegan has its own special powers, and in many ways,it can be said that the Rinnegan has more functionality, but the author has completely neglected the Rinnegan’s abilities in theBorutoseries, which essentially means that overpowered abilities such as the Kokugan reign supreme.
