What are Spirit Weapons?
The Unique Power of Quincy Spirit Weapons
Spirit Weapons are one of the defining traits of the Quincy race. They are createdthrough a Quincy’s innate abilityto gather and shape ambient Reishi particles using their own Reiryoku, or spiritual power. At their core, Spirit Weapons serve the same purpose as a Shinigami’s Zanpakutō - to fight Hollows. However, unlike Zanpakutō which purify Hollows, Spirit Weapons completely destroy them.
Quincy gather random ambient Reishi, coat it in their own Reiryoku, and materialize it as Hollow-killing weapons; we use the power from without, so to speak.
The power of a Quincy’s Spirit Weapon corresponds directly to their own level of skill and stamina. More proficient Quincy are capable of forming weapons with stronger abilities or more solid, tangible forms. Their only limitations are imposed by the Quincy’s own spiritual reserves. This allows their weapons to scale up in tandem with the user’s growth, becoming increasingly lethal threats.
Essential Criteria for Crafting Spirit Weapons
In order to manifest a Spirit Weapon, a Quincy must meet three key requirements related to their spiritual traits and environment:
Above-Average Spiritual Power
Similar tohow a Shinigami requires skillwith their Zanpakutō, a minimum threshold of Reiryoku is needed for a Quincy to shape Reishi. Weaker Quincy may be incapable of weapon creation until improving their reserves.
The Quincy Cross
The distinctive crossed pendant worn by Quincy acts as a focal point and enhancement for their Reishi manipulation. No weapon can be formed without the spiritual boost granted by a Cross.
Reishi-Rich Environment
Spirit Weapons rely on ambient Reishi as their building blocks. A Quincy must be in an area containing loose Reishi particles to fashion them into weapons. Places like Hueco Mundoor Soul Society provide ideal conditions.
To aid weak Quincy, some clans like the Ishida developed the Quincy Bangle support item. While it facilitates Reishi absorption, a Bangle alone cannot replace a Quincy’s innate skills. Mastery over all three attributes is key for true proficiency with Spirit Weapons.

Historically, Quincy Spirit Weapons took the simplistic forms of bows and arrows for long-range battling. However, over two centuries ago, more creative Quincy began generating a variety of shapes.
Lower-level Quincies tend to conjure weapons from wispy blue energy, while masters craft them into solid, metallic constructs matching their tremendous Reiryoku. The composition also depends on ambient Reishi density—weaponsformed in the Soul Societyappear more physical than those of the real world.
Regardless of appearance, all Spirit Weapons share the ability toharm and destroy Hollows.Their forms are only limited by the Quincy’s imagination and power level. More formidable Quincies even develop signature weapons matching their unique combat styles.
Common Types of Quincy Spirit Weapons
Through centuries of refinement, Quincy have learned to craft Reishi into an array of deadly armaments. Their two standard weapons are bows and arrows, reflecting their historical role as skilled marksmen. However, modern Quincy sport a much wider variety adapted for diverse combat situations.
Heilig Bogen- Spirit Bows
The signature bow of Quincy marksman. All basic Quincy can form the Kojaku bow, but elite Quincy imbue their bows with personalized traits.Uryu Ishida sports several refined versions,like the Ginrei Kojaku.
Heilig Pfeil - Spirit Arrows
Reishi concentrated into azure arrow projectiles. They can be fired rapidly from bows or manifested individually as stabbing weapons. Extremely lethal to spiritual beings.
Seele Schneider, Soul Cutters
Sword-like blades shaped from Reishi. Some, Quincy like Bambietta, can customize their swords with unique traits.
Kojaku: Basic Quincy Bow
The entry-level Spirit Weapon available to all Quincies with any power is a simple bow called a Kojaku. It forms instinctively through the Quincy Cross on the wielder’s right hand, emanating Reishi tendrils that serve as the limbs. Accompanying arrows are also composed of gathered Reishi. While basic, the Kojaku allows initial long-range Hollow extermination through its launched projectiles.
Ginrei Kojaku, Uryū’s Second Bow
Uryū Ishida’s personalized intermediatebow. A semi-translucent flaming energy bow surrounded by concentric Reishi rings. Uniquely, it can simultaneously fire up to 1,200 arrows at once through its built-in multi-shot function,granting vastly improved area coverageand damage compared to standard Kojaku archery. This upgraded model shows Uryū’s growing control over intricate Reishi manipulation.
