Character power inDivinity: Original Sin 2is decided by two factors: the levels of the party and the gear they have equipped. Even max level characters can fall easily athigher difficultiesif they don’t have the proper gear equipped; equipment that is primarily obtained by buying it from vendors.
While the game does shower players with a decent amount of gold to make necessary purchases as a reward for defeating enemies and completing quests, there is always a shinier, better armor set, weapon, or Skill Book at a vendor waiting to be bought.

Use Pickpocketing And Thievery
The most effective get-rich-quick scheme inDivinity: Original Sin 2ispickpocketing NPCs with valuable itemsor gear that can be either sold later on or used by a party member. To do this effectively, it’s advisable to geta dedicated thief in the party, preferably two. Any character can take on this role as long as they have points in the Thievery Civil Ability, with some Sneaking to make getting close to targets easier.
The easiest way to pickpocket someone is by having one party member talk to the target while the thief sneaks around their back to steal. This is much harder to do if the target is standing in a crowded area like a market, but it is still doable. It helps if you can identify who is looking in your direction and force them to turn away by having a second party member initiate a conversation with them.
Once you’ve successfully stolen something, immediately leave to not be stopped by the victim. You can even sell the stolen goods to the target themselves and they’ll buy it back.
CombiningChameleon Cloak (Scoundrel Skill)and Cloak and Dagger (Polymorph Skill) can teleport you to any target while invisible, allowing you to pickpocket without worrying about cones of vision.
Invest In Bartering
Regardless of whether you’re selling stolen goods or honest loot, the vendors inDivinity: Original Sin 2are incredibly stingy when it comes to money. The only way to get their pockets to loosen is to increase the Bartering Skill on a character and have them deal with merchants. Bartering increases the amount of gold you get when you sell something and reduces the price of items when you decide to make a purchase.
By default, theHuman Race gets a +1 to Barteringfrom theirTalent: Thrifty, which makes Ifan Ben-Mezd and Lohse the best companions to fill this role. In Act 2, you can find Bartering Increasing Gear, which adds an additional +4 points, taking the max total up to 10. If you manage to reach this point,goods will sell for 40% more, and vendors will give you a flat20% discounton everything.
Additionally, increasing your reputation with a merchant will make Bartering even more effective. All you need to do is give the merchant gold until their Attitude reaches 100 and you’re set.
Crafting Valuables
For players unwilling to make money via unsavory means, crafting is the solution. Generally, anything that’s crafted is more valuable than the ingredients/materials used to make it, but there are some crafted items that get a huge jump in value in their processed form.
Charming Arrowsare the best example of this.Crafted using a Jar of Honey and an Arrow, a single Charming Arrow sells for 145 apiece, which is their base value and can be increased via Bartering. Considering the fact that Jars of Honey only require an Empty Jar of Honey and a Beehive to make.
Increase Lucky Charm
More Luck equals more gold. If you’re playing a good character and don’t want to resort to thievery and pickpocketing in order to get gold, the ‘proper’ way to increase your chances of earning gold is by increasing your Lucky Charm. If a character with high Lucky Charm opens a container that normally would contain 100 gold, it will instead contain as much as 500 gold, if not more. Investing points into Lucky Charm is the main way to increase your gold passively. Since it doesn’t require you to necessarilydoanything, it’s the easiest method as well.
