Summary

Warriors in theDragon Ageseries are burly frontline fighters who can cut down their foes with unfathomable strength or turn themselves into a walking wall to defend their allies. However, beneath their beefy exterior are some true romantics at heart.

That being said, they are a bit more scarce than the other two classes, as several warrior party members aren’t romanceable, such as Sten and Oghren inDragon Age: Originsand Aveline inDragon Age 2. However, there are still several warrior characters that can be romanced, and it’s worth looking at the best choices from across the series.

Taash is a somewhat polarizing characterfrom the most recentDragon Agegame. Their brash and somewhat bratty behavior combined with their fierce temper have made them less popular than otherVeilguardcharacters. However, those who are willing to make the effort to get past their fiery exterior will find that there is more to them.

Taash has a lot of love to give, but they have trouble trusting those they don’t know. It takes a while for their walls to come down, but when they do, it becomes clear that they are a caring individual who only wants to protect those they are close to.

There are a lot of complications that come about when embarking on a relationship with Blackwall inDragon Age Inquisition. Without diving too deeply into spoiler territory, not everything is as it seems with him, and it can lead to heartbreak further down the line.

Those who commit to a relationship with him despite the revelations are likely to enjoy the drama and scandal that come along with staying with Blackwall. He’s also quite the charmer, making for some cute cutscenes and dialogue. However, his romance isn’t quite as in-depth as some of the other warriors in the series.

6Iron Bull

Dragon Age: Inquisition

Iron Bull is a particularly popular romance choice fromDragon Age: Inquisition, but he is slightly lower on our list due to what can happen with the romance in theTrespasserDLC forInquisition.

As well as having an interesting narrative in terms of his role withinqunari society, Bull’s romance is equally unique. He is also one of the most fun romances thanks to some of the cutscenes players are treated to.

5Davrin

Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Theromances inDragon Age: The Veilguardhave been criticized for not having the depth seen in the other games. While this isn’t entirely unwarranted, there are still plenty of enjoyable elements to the romance choices in the game, such as with Davrin the Grey Warden.

Davrin is the stereotypical charming heartthrob warrior romance inVeilguard, but he has a unique element to his romance in the form of baby griffon Assan. As Rook helps Davrin form a bond with Assan, their relationship can develop into friendship and then romance if the player so chooses.

It’s sweet to see Davrin and Assan’s relationship grow, but it also makes him feel more real and relatable as he starts to view his griffon companion as a family member rather than just an animal. There is no doubt that Assan’s involvement makes Davrin all the more appealing as a romance choice.

When it comes to dark and brooding warrior romances in theDragon Ageseries, Fenris is the number one choice.Fenris is a runaway Tevinter slavewho has lyrium infused into his body, leading to the tattoo-like glowing blue markings. His enslavement and treatment at the hands of magisters in Tevinter have made him unsympathetic toward the plight of mages, but Hawke can help him see that not all mages are the same.

Fenris is the epitome of a closed-off, emotionally stunted character, but this is for good reason. Once the player gets to know him, it becomes clear that he not only longs for true freedom but also wants to be loved.

3Cullen

Cullen is the only character on this list who isn’t a companion, but there are a few missions where he will join the player (though he isn’t playable). He is a templar warrior and has been through a lot during his time in theDragon Ageuniverse, having been captured and tortured inDragon Age: Originsand then dealing with Knight Commander Meredith’s insanity inDragon Age 2. Players who romance him will find that his experiences have affected him more than he lets on, but they will also find out that he hasn’t lost his faith in people and still yearns for a connection.

The Cullen romance is incredibly sweet. Despite his tough and steely exterior, he becomes easily flustered when flirted with. He’s shy and nervous when around the Inquisitor, though he eventually finds his footing and starts responding in kind. It’s great to see Cullen get a happy ending of sorts with this romance, especially after everything he has been through.

2Cassandra

Cassandra is the epitome of a battle-hardened warrior with physical and mental scars to prove it. She is ruthless and takes no prisoners, which makes her romance all the more entertaining when the player finds out what she is really like.

Underneath her curt exterior,Cassandra is a romanticthrough and through. She is a fan of trashy romance novels, and her romance storyline involves taking her out on a romantic date and making her feel like a princess.

This hidden part of her personality makes Cassandra one of the best warrior romances, as it shows that there is much more to her than meets the eye. She is a multifaceted person rather than a one-dimensional stereotype, and her romance portrays this perfectly.

Last but not least is Alistair, who is the only warrior romance option inDragon Age: Origins.Alistair is a particularly impressive character, as there are so many aspects to him that come together to create a rich, well-developed, and believable person. Alistair is sweet but willing to do what it takes to protect those around him. He is charming, but not completely naive. He is uncertain of himself, but also well aware of his responsibilities and willing to put his duties first.

There is a lot to enjoy about the Alistair romance storyline. The player goes through all the key events in the game with him, and they are faced with a seemingly impossible situation. They go through it all together, and even though the events of the game can change depending on the player’s choice, it’s clear that they have a special bond because of this.

From a romantic perspective, this becomes all the more like an epic romance, with the two main characters being forced together through their circumstances and falling in love on their mission to save the world. The great incorporation of Alistair’s romance with the narrative ofDragon Age: Originsas well as the depth and likability of Alistair as a character makes him the best warrior romance choice in theDragon Ageseries.
