Understanding Party Synergy in Dragon Quest 3 Remake:

They are not meant to be a one-person wrecking ball, and while they may be far more powerful in the early-game, they will come to rely heavily on their party members as the game progresses.
Pairing theHerowith aMagemakes perfect sense, and is the only member of the party that we never switched out for another class. The Mage has access to the most powerful spells inDQIII Remake.
Magic is extremely important in combat, as many of the game’s strongest enemies will be weak to some form of magic attack, and the Mage is the best option in these situations. The Mage also has the ability to transform into the much more powerfulSagelater in the game.
ThePriestwill be extremely important for new players, as they possess the most potenthealing spells. They also have access to a wide variety of buffs and debuffs that can make a big difference if players choose to utilize them. While they are not necessary for the long haul, all new players should take advantage of the Priest class.
Finally, the Warrior is a master of pure physical combat. In the early-game, you will need a member other than the Hero who acts as a tank, and the Warrior fills this role perfectly. Because the Mage and Priest have low HP, you may find yourself closing out fights with just the Hero and the Warrior. Once the Hero has leveled up past level 5, they can protect the other members, and the Warrior can be the first to go.
Changing Party Members in Dragon Quest 3 Remake

The Mage and Priest have far too much utility for new players. However, if you absolutely want to go for a no-magic combat team, switch out the Mage and Warrior, and use thePriest just for healing.

Using the Thief:
The first and best alternate starting party member is theThief. This is the only option we would seriously consider for new players as an alternate for the Warrior. The Thief can steal items from enemies, is capable of sneaking up and recruiting scared monsters for the Monster Arena, and will eventually learn an ability that tells you exactly how much treasure is left in your present area.
The Thief is also able to use the Boomerang and Whip weapons, which are great for crowd control, especially once leveled-up.
Using the Martial-Artist:
TheMartial Artistclass is a possible replacement for the Warrior, mostly because it is the most comparable. These hand-to-hand specialists are capable of dealing extremely high damage to single enemies, and gain HP fast when leveling up. However, over time, the Thief has more wide-ranging utility, and would be our final recommendation for an alternate starting party member.
