Summary

Traveller’s Taleshave had the exclusive license toLegogames for several years, and have used it to release a bevy of hugely popular titles that utilize all of the properties fans love. Whether it is theLego Batmangames,Lego Marvel Super Heroes, toys-to-life experiments likeLego Dimensions,or some of the older titles, these games undoubtedly introduced many gamers to these exciting franchises and were a source ofamazing co-op fun.

However, asTraveller’s Taleshas recently lost the rights to be the only producer ofLegogames, fans might find now to be a good time to look around at other brick-based titles to see how successful the toys can be in the hands of other developers.

1Lego Brawls

Platform Fighter With Random Roster

Following in the footsteps ofSuper Smash Brosand other similar fighting games likeMultiversusorNickelodeon All-Star Brawl,Lego Brawlsis a lightly competitive fighting title designed to get new players in the game and cause chaos onscreen. Pitting players against each other with health bars and lives, rather than percentages and stocks,Brawlslets players unlock weapons and gadgets from across theLegouniverse.

Whether from classic sets like Pirate or Space Lego or more recognizable properties likeJurassic WorldorNinjago,Brawlwill allow players the freedom to unlock new Lego parts and then have them build their own Minifigure characters to fight with. While a little barebones,Brawlsis well worth a try for any long-timeLegofan.

Featuring an open-world hub that lets players wander around five different worlds based on beloved Lego sets,Lego Racers 2improves on its predecessor in almost every way. Letting players buildtheir own kartto race on a series of tracks across playsets featuring Pirates, Aliens, and Dinosaurs, Lego pulled out all the stops to make a kart racer with variety.

Fans loved the ability to build their vehicles on release, and seeing them get damaged and dismantled through races against tricky bosses makes the whole game feel more physical. A valiant attempt to recreate the fun of playing with real Lego smashed into a decent racing game.

For any fan of Lego who is looking for a cozy gamethat can bring back the feeling of building charming little sets and intricately placing pieces,Lego Builder’s Journeyis a puzzle game that follows the adventures of a man and his son. They travel across rivers and high cliffs, and players will have to move bricks and create terrain that the son can jump around to catch up with his father.

At first, the gameplay can seem simple, but the puzzles get trickier and more inventive and the addition of little slides that players must complete for the child to slip across the whole map makes the cute little game pop with personality.

Players of the massive multiplayer hit,Fortnite, might make assumptions about the brickified spin-off, butLego Fortniteis quite separate in its gameplay despite being accessed through the same launcher. Fans will find themselves thrown in at the deep end, forced to survive in a world full of Lego materials, buildings, and creatures.

More of a survival game that often plays with the same mechanics asMinecraft, this game puts a focus on creating a home base, fighting off dark monsters, players building their weapons, and staying well-fed and equipped. ALegogame with a hunger meter may not seem exciting at first glance, but the different direction this game goes in makes for a unique and interesting break from the standardLegogame.

5Lego Universe

Another Lost MMO

Lego Universeis a hugely ambitious title. An MMO that sees a corrupted world saved by leagues of minifigure adventurers and gives players massive worlds to explore, the title had millions of devoted players. The world created by NetDevil had a rich backstory, many weapons and gear pieces that could be mastered by characters, and huge bosses that could be fought with other players.

Properties could be claimed and filled with Lego models or collected pieces. With all of the best parts of Lego brought together into one place and shared with such a successful multiplayer game,Universewas astounding in its scopeuntil it was shut down. Some fanservers remained active for years, and thousands of players were able to experience this exceptional Lego adventure.

A puzzle adventure with a story, players inLego Bricktaleswill explore different worlds and solve problems for other minifigures across their journey. Moving through the different hubs, Lego folks will ask the player for help building things. Some of these requests are simple - build a shop stall - but quickly these become physics puzzles - build a bridge that can support a truck or a functioning crane.

Players are given a selection of Lego pieces and told to build and then the game opens up ina massive stretch of freedom. Players have limitless ways to complete the missions and will be rewarded with new areas and new cosmetics that can be used to make their own Minifigure look as weird and wonderful as possible.

A huge open world, split into various areas, is nothing new to Lego games.Lego 2K Driveexplodes onto the scene by adding destructible environments that player-built cars or boats can burst through. The world acts as a hub for many missions, collectibles, and races that players will have to tackle to be able to face off against the current champion.

With loveable NPCs, exciting challenges that will task players with facing off against time trials, battles against other racers and delivery missions, and hundreds ofperks, parts, and costumes to unlock,Lego 2K Drivecomes the closest to the massive collect-a-thons thatTraveller’s Taleshas released.

The most recent title in theLegoseries that was not produced byTraveller’s Tales,Lego Horizon Adventuresis a stunning Lego adaptation of the originalHorizon Zero Dawngame. Players step into a post-apocalypse where dinosaurs and robots have fused and the human survivors live in a kind of prehistory melded with futuristic tech. Many elements from the olderTraveller’s Talesgames are on display here, like the fixed camera, destructible environments, andexcessive collectibles.

Still, the inclusion of protagonist Aloy with customizable minifigure outfits makes this a lighthearted step away from the bleak future of the original. The ability to play in co-op with friends and the creative freedom to build your village makes this a goofy aside from the first title that young and old Lego fans can enjoy.
