Summary
Isekai Manhwaoften presents worlds that are cruel to their Main Characters, where praise and fortune are scarce, and suffering is right around the corner. In these morally grey worlds, protagonists suffer a lot, and through that strife, they develop varied coping mechanisms.
Some become anti-heroes or revenge-obsessed psychos, while others remain true to their inner selves no matter what. But for how long will they be able to remain human? That is a different story.
8Reincarnation Of The Veteran Soldier
Comedy, Action, And Morally Grey Characters
InReincarnation Of The Veteran Soldier, the audience follows the misadventures of a former Korean Army reservist who died in the most ridiculous of ways. Mocked by the Goddess who was supposed to give him another chance, he wasthrown into a morally grey world, where the cultists who adore the deity consider him a devil.
In this series, we follow a group of misfits trying to rebel against a world that is just too unfair for reincarnators. With ludicrous powers and cool battle scenes, this is a crazy fun read for those looking for anti-hero stories.
7Magic Academy’s Genius Blinker
Magic Academy’s Genius Blinkerfollows a reincarnated Korean in the body of Baek Juseol, a Magician whose only spell is Blink (teleport a short distance). In a world where anyone can be an enemy, andwhere bad decisions have dire consequences, he will need to adjust to this new scenario, if he wants to avoid a horrible ending.
This Manhwa is quite good and deals with morally complex situations that are not easy to understand for those who only see in terms of black and white.
6The Knight King Who Returned With A God
They Asked For A Savior, They Sent The Most Brutal Paladin
This Manhwa has some great worldbuilding and several good aspects that include highly polished art, and great action scenes. But what’s most interesting about this story, is that the Hero/Savior is a brutal and merciless Paladin, with an old-fashioned/medieval mindset.
He punishes heathens and treats everyone like subjects, but why wouldn’t he? He is the chosen one sent by the Gods to purge Earth of Evil Doers, Heathens, and Demonic Influence. Quite a good anti-heroic tale.
5The Barbarian Of Seoul Station
Only The Strong Survive In This Story
A Barbarian younling is sent to Earth by his parents, to protect his life from a rival tribe. But fate had other plans for this guy, who grew up trying to contain his brutal nature. One day, when Mysterious Portals appear on Earth, he gets another chance to unleash his Barbaric self.
This story is not for those looking for perfect heroes, as its protagonist will smash the heads of anyone who stands on his road to becoming the Ultimate Barbarian. With a setting ina world where the strongest survive, and those too good to make hard choices are thrown into the mud.
4Dark Fantasy Paladin
There’s No God Here, Only Death And Suffering
Reincarnated into a Soulslike Game, a Korean player takes the Mantle of a Paladin Inquisitor of the Church. But unbeknownst to them, he has knowledge of this world that no one else has:God doesn’t exist, and the power of Faith is a lie.
A story that is as deep as morally complex, a brutal statement about humanity’s innermost nature. In a world where everything is permitted, he will carve a bloody path to prevent the bad ending.
3The Beginning After The End
No Matter Where You Go, War Never Changes
Tired of war, King Grey is betrayed and killed, but much to his surprise, he gets another chance as Arthur Leywyn, son of a couple of retired adventurers. But the world where he was sent is about to be struck by war, and Arthur will once more assume the mantle of a warrior, to protect those who he learned to love.
A powerful story, filled to the brimwith great character developments, and deeply complex moral decisions. There’s no right or wrong here, only survival: they either stand together and fight or be massacred by others.
2The Skeleton Soldier Failed To Defend The Dungeon
A World Where Being Human Is A Precious Commodity
In a world where adventurers delve into dungeons and plunder without measuring the consequences, the protagonist isreincarnated as the weakest of monsters: A skeleton soldier.
Now, trapped in a death loop, he will have to evolve, shedding off his humanity like a burdensome rock. No right or wrong, no moral compass, just a single goal: Protect the dungeon at all costs.
1Solo Leveling
There Are No Heroes Here, Only People Fighting For Survival
A discarded Hunter left to die in a dark dungeon. From the first chapter of Solo Leveling, we are presented with a world where there are always difficult choices, and the law of the jungle rules supreme.
Sung Jinwoo is the perfect anti-hero for this story: unafraid of making harsh decisions, yet, at the same time, human enough to avoid abandoning those too weak to protect themselves. A great story, with cool visuals and a morally grey worldbuilding.
