However, another actor is gaining popularity with some fans due to his recent role as Fiyero in the box office successWicked: Jonathan Bailey.
On BlueSky, Gunn revealed that he took his mom and wife to see theWickedmovie at the Des Peres Cinema theater, where he and Jim Lee (President, Publisher, and Chief Creative Officer of DC Comics) first sawChristopher Reeves’Superman: The Moviein 1978. BlueSky user “Lee Pace Should be Batman” responded to Gunn’s post by expressing hope that Gunn will find a place for Bailey in the DCU. The BlueSky user didn’t know who Bailey could play in the DCU but noted that the actor is seemingly a “massive star in the making” and is surprised he’s surprised theWickedstar isn’t a more popular Batman fan-casting choice. This caught the attention of Gunn, who liked the BlueSky user’s post, causing fans to wonder if this meant Bailey was indeed on Gunn’s radar to play Batman.
As of this writing, Gunn has not commented on why he liked this post or if doing so is any hint at his plans for casting the DCU’s Batman. At the very least, Gunn was seemingly impressed enough with Bailey’s performance inWickedthat the mere suggestion of including the actor in the DCU was worth liking. Does it mean Gunn agrees that Bailey would be a good choice to play the DCU’s Batman? Does it mean Bailey is already on Gunn’s list of actors who could play Batman or another DCU character? Are fans reading too much into Gunn liking a post? Time will tell, but fans must likely wait a while, as Gunn recently explained he’s inno rush to getBatman: The Brave and the Boldmovingforward.

However, Gunn more recently stated that hisDCU projects will not move forwarduntil they have a script that satisfies him. This means that a DCU movie or series, includingBatman: The Brave and the Bold, won’t be greenlit simply because it was announced.
Of course, it’s unlikely that the DCU won’t have a Batman movie in its line-up. The character is part of DC’s Trinity (Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman) and almost a guaranteed box office hit for Warner Bros. However, Gunn is taking his time with each DCU project, so if Bailey has a future as Batman, fans probably won’t know until much later.
