While it might have taken some gamers some time to get used to, the unique appearance certainly stands out, setting the PS5 apart from simple square or rectangular-shaped consoles of prior generations and competitors.
Now, a PS5 fan has found something that looks suspiciously similar to the exact design of the Sony flagship console. Reddit user KarmicDanger shared an image of their parents' radiator on the PlayStation subreddit, joking that their parents had somehow traveled back in time to acquire a PS5 Pro for their bathroom years before the console’s release. Referring to it as a “Granny Smith edition” for its vibrant bright green color, it’s hard to dispute the similarity, with the overall shape, size, and even theblack stripes unique to the PS5 Propresent on the radiator.
PlayStation 5 Pro Console Has Look-alike Radiator
Fellow gamers have been quick to reply to the post, sharing their amusement at the similarity and joking about what kinds of games the radiator could handle. Several suggested that this was the perfect bathroom gaming setup, while others suggested that the extra stripes on the radiator seemed to indicate that it was astep above the PS5 Pro.
As it turns out, this particular radiator dates back to at least 2016, making it several years older than the original PS5 and much more than the PS5 Pro. With additional photos, it becomes apparent that there are some distinct similarities between the two. However, outside of the overall shape, there are some differences. The aforementioned stripes, for example, are actually a grille vent on the radiator, and are completely vertical, whereas the PlayStation 5 Pro’s grooves are a bit slanted.
While the exact reason behind these similarities isn’t officially known, it’s possible the PS5 used a similar mold for the overall case of the console to this radiator. If that’s the case, it wouldn’t be the first time a console bears a strong similarity to another device entirely due to using the same mold. TheAtari Jaguar consolemolds were sold after the company went bankrupt, which were later used to create dental equipment. With no overt connection between the radiator and console companies, the PS5 could be a similar case, albeit in the opposite direction, as the radiator precedes the PS5.
