With twelve new subclasses coming to the game in 2025,Baldur’s Gate 3players will certainly be creating some new original Tavs or Dark Urges for even more play-throughs of the popular RPG. However, the game’s NPC companions should not be neglected. Some ofBaldur’s Gate 3’sparty members would fit quite well in the new subclass added to their existing class, while others seem like far less of a perfect fit - but it might make for a fun experiment to try to slot them in.

Wyll Seems Destined To Be A Hexblade

TheHexbladesubclass for the Warlock sees members of the class wielding magical weapons formed from the Shadowfell - perfect for Wyll, who is classed as a Warlock despite being the “Blade of Frontiers.” A more martial-focused variant on his standard class is excellent for someone who is already so skilled with melee weapons, to the point that many fans were disappointedBaldur’s Gate 3didn’t previously include Hexblade solely so they could make Wyll one.

Path Of Giants Matches Many Players' Strategy For Karlach

The new Barbarian subclass, Path of Giants, allows the Barbarian to increase their size and strength mid-battle, letting them fling massive objects for devastating amounts of damage. ManyBaldur’s Gate 3players have used the existing Potions of Cloud and Hill Giant Strength and the Enlarge spell to create a “largeKarlach” who rampages around the battlefield much like this new subclass allows. For Karlach, who loves to truly let loose in combat, getting to grow in size and completely dominate the field is a fitting choice.

There Is A Tragic Irony In Making Astarion A Swashbuckler

TheSwashbuckler subclassturns a Rogue into a dashing, pirate-inspired hero who can disarm their opponents, utilize distracting techniques like tossing sand, and perform Fancy Footwork when dueling an enemy. This Rogue subclass is very much like a hero out of a storybook - the kind of person, Astarion will admit should he grow close enough to the player character, who he once wished would rescue him from his difficult life as a vampire spawn under the cruel Cazador Szarr. There is something powerful in making Astarion himself into the same kind of storybook hero he always dreamed of and looked up to.

Other New Subclasses Are Humorously Ironic For Companions

While Wyll, Karlach, and Astarion seem well-suited toBaldur’s Gate 3’snew subclasses, the other companions do not.Shadowheartcould work well in the Cleric’s Death Domain, as she is no stranger to killing and has often been sent on deadly missions while in service to Shar. However, some subclasses would actually be quite humorous or ironic for other companions. For example:
