Summary
Astro Botmay soon be adding even more DLC, one of which could introduce Tomba to its cast of characters. That’s according to a recent change to the game that was spotted by one eagle-eyedAstro Botplayer.
Team Asobi’s hit platformer debuted to widespread acclaim on September 6. The Japanese developer announced a wave of free DLC for the game in the form of five speedrunning levels shortly afterward. The last addition from this group,Astro Bot’s Rising Heat, launched on November 14.
But this may not be the end ofAstro Botpost-launch content, at least if the latest version of the game’s credits is to be believed. As spotted by Reddit user AssanChop, Team Asobi recently quietly updatedAstro Bot’s credits, which now include a mention ofTomba Special Edition. This implies that Tomba and potentially some other characters from the classic game could soon make their way to the hit platformer.
Tomba Is Currently More Relevant Than It’s Been in Years
Originally released in 1997 as a PlayStation exclusive,Tombarecently made a comebackin the form of a remaster. CalledTomba Special Edition, the new version of the game launched for the PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC on August 1. The classic platformer is hence currently more relevant than it has been in years, so the possibility of itsAstro Botcrossover isn’t as random as it might seem at first.
Tomba Special Editionisn’t the onlypotentialAstro Botcrossover that the game’s credits have recently hinted at. Both itsRise of the RoninandStellar Bladecameos were previously telegraphed in advance in this manner. The current version ofAstro Bot’s credits also mentions a number of Ubisoft franchises:Assassin’s Creed,Beyond Good and Evil, andRayman. Ditto forWormsandCroc: Legend of the Gobbos. None of these IPs have yet made their way to the game.
All Potential Astro Bot Crossovers Mentioned in the Game’s Credits
Astro Bot’s initial DLC lineup included five themed levels. The game’s credits hence currently hint at enough additional crossovers for a second wave of add-ons of similar size. Seeing how the platformer’s post-launch levels were all free so far, it’s plausible that any new DLC will also be offered to players at no extra cost. If Team Asobi is indeed planning more content forAstro Bot, it likely won’t be long before the studio announces as much. Since October 17, the critically acclaimed game has received one new free speedrunning level every Thursday.
