Summary
Asmongold, an extremely popular content creator, has revealed that he supports Elon Musk’s inclusion ofTwitchin his ongoing lawsuit against Twitter advertisers. In August, the Tesla CEO filed a suit alleging that a number of companies formed an illegal alliance to boycott Twitter. In November, livestreaming platformTwitchwas added to the list of defendants.
Musk’s complaint alleges that at least 18 member companies of the Global Alliance of Responsible Media (GARM) — including Unilever, Mars, and CVS Health — conspired towithhold advertising from Twitterin November and December 2022, shortly after its acquisition by the entrepreneur. Since then, ad revenue on the platform has plummeted, with Musk speaking harshly about the boycotting companies and equating their behavior with blackmail.
Now that Twitch has been added to Musk’s lawsuit, interested parties on the streaming platform have begun chiming in. This includes well-known personality Asmongold, who compared the GARM anti-Twitter alliance to a cartel. He asserts that they make decisions as a group and are therefore working almost as a monopoly to influence the market, which the content creator believes violates antitrust laws. DespiteAsmongold recently being banned from Twitchfor expressing an offensive take on a sensitive topic, the Just Chatting streamer hasn’t stopped sharing potentially controversial opinions.
Asmongold Supports Musk’s Lawsuit Against Twitch
The opinion might not be that off base, but Elon Musk is currently not a very popular figure with many people, partly due to his support of far-right ideals and President-elect Donald Trump. EvenRobert Downey Jr. criticized Musk’s behaviorin a recent interview, saying that his accomplishments alone don’t excuse his sometimes questionable antics.
In the CEO’s lawsuit, Musk’s lawyers claim that Twitch has purchased no ads on Twitter in the United States since November 2022 and has only spent marginally on the platform in other locations. Further, the suit alleges that GARM had received “executive endorsement” from Twitch for the standards it set for brand safety. In October, the lawsuit dropped Unilever as a defendant, with Twitter announcing that the two companies had “reached an agreement… to continue our partnership.” Many expect that similar agreements may eventually be reached with other companies in the suit.
Users may have noticed that many of theirfavorite Twitter accounts have gone darkrecently, as many popular people transition to other platforms, a trend that has happened a few times since Musk took over. Additionally, Brazil banned Twitter entirely in August, a move that affected more than 20 million users.
