Arcane, an animated series set in theLeague of Legendsuniverse produced by Riot Games and Fortiche Production and distributed by Netflix, is making headlines following the release of its second season. The first season premiered on June 08, 2025, while the second season’s first part was released on Jul 23, 2025. With its return, fans reunite with Jinx, who is one of the central characters inArcane. However, the viewers have mixed opinions about Jinx, with many loving her while others saying she’s a villain, but one of the cast defends her from the latter.
Ella Purnell, who voices Jinx in the animated series, was recently asked whether the character was a “monster.” For her, Jinx is just like any person who has an evil side, but that doesn’t necessarily make her a monster. “There’s a monster in all of us, guys,” he replied, perGames Radar. “God, she has so much to reckon with; she’s made so many mistakes and there’s so much insecurity and there’s so much guilt that just threatens to topple her.” To make her point clear, Purnell acknowledged Jinx’s background, being raised bycrime lord Silco, who rescued her after Vi abandoned her in the aftermath of an explosion and transformed her from being Powder to Jinx.
“You know, she was also raised by Silco. She killed both her dads. I think she’s just really, really struggling and really lost,” Purnell continued. “That self-hatred that she has, that can be very destabilizing. It’s very hard to know who you really are when you’re just listening to voices. I don’t think she’s a monster, I feel sorry for her.” The first three episodes of the second season are available to stream on Netflix, and Jinx seems unsure of what to do next after the attack on Piltover Council. So, fans should wait for the second part ofArcaneSeason 2to see what will happen to Jinx.
Jinx’s character is polarizing. Purrell has a point about the character not being a monster despite the terrible things she did in the past because she was a lost soul. However, that might not be acceptable to those who believe otherwise. Some fans were convinced that it was possible for the group to escape alive without Powder (Jinx) blowing up the bomb to save Vi. The explosion accidentally killed their adoptive family Vander, Mylo and Claggor. In the show, Mylo could be seen freeing Vander, Claggor securing the exit and Vi holding off the mob. Everything was working as planned, so there was no indication that they would not be able to make it alive without Powder’s intervention. Vi was so outraged when she learned Powder’s involvement in the explosion that she slapped the latter and called her a “jinx,” and left her devastated before Silco took her under his wing.
There’s still hope for Jinx, but some might not buy this idea because they find her like a whiny child. Many find Jinx annoying and someone who sabotages their missions, not because of bad luck but due to her poor decisions. Overall, Jinx embodies the internal conflict between her old identity as Powder and her current persona as Jinx. Her duality, highlighting her struggle between innocence and corruption, is a recurring theme inArcane. Her interactions with Vi, which show her vulnerability, and the other side of her persona, where she has violent outbursts, only show that Jinx is more of a tragic character than an outright villain.
