In the age of Netflix honing into animations more frequently, where some succeed and some fail,Arcaneseason onewas thankfully a smash hit straight out the door as it maintained a 100% critic average on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as racking up millions of viewing hours and picking up four Emmy Awards in 2022. Now, it seems as though season two could faithfully follow in the first season’s footsteps if it can keep up with its complex and hard-hitting narrative that has seen the show outshine the rest as Vi and Jinx finally reunite in what’s cited to be an explosive finale.
Arcane Creators Reveal the Five-Season Run Was an In-House Prank
Talking exclusively withTechRadar,Arcane’s creators, Christian Linke and Alex Yee, have revealed that the hit show’s rumored five-season plan was never going to happen. Linke stated that from the beginning ofArcane, two seasons were always what was planned for the series and that the idea of a five-season run was blown out of proportion. The rumor’s origins seem to have ignited when Nicolo Laurent, who was Riot Games CEO at the time, played a prank on Linke by telling him that the show would go ahead for five seasons. So, in the end, a simple joke had somehow made its way toArcanefans, who then were left wondering what had happened with the rest of the seasons.
Yee also stated that making an animated series is already such a big undertaking and “has such a long development pipeline”, so that the five-season prank was more a round-about way of Riot saying that they trusted the creators to shape the show in a way which they saw fit, and that ended up being a conclusion with season two. Even though someArcanefans may want more of a continuation of Jinx and Vi’s story, although this entirely depends on how the show ends, it’s probably wise to conclude the animation in good standing so that it doesn’t become spoiled and run intoshows that went on for far too long.
Outside of the Netflix animation, it has been revealed thatArcanewill receive its very first novel. TitledAmbessa: Chosen Of The Wolfand releasing sometime in 2025, the book will be written by sci-fi and fantasy author C.L. Clark, who has previously penned theMagic of the Losttrilogy. As for now,Arcaneseason two will be released on Netflix in three parts, starting on June 01, 2025, and then with act two coming on November 16, and act three on November 23.
