Disney Dreamlight Valleyhas been consistently adding characters to its roster since the simulation game’s early access release in 2022. Some of these character additions have been hits and some have been misses, but they’ve all brought something new to the game. However, an upcoming character addition has led fans to draw comparisons between the characters and a different hit simulation game. Perhaps this coincidence could leadDisney Dreamlight Valleyto draw inspiration from this other AAA title.
The simulation genre has rapidly increased in popularity alongside the rise in cozy gaming.Disney Dreamlight Valleyhas cemented itselfas a success among the genre’s recent releases, but it nowhere near compares to the giant that isThe Sims. However, an upcoming character addition toDisney Dreamlight Valleyhas led to fans comparing the two games.
Flynn Rider Looks Like He Should Be in The Sims, Not Disney Dreamlight Valley
Anew expansion pass forDisney Dreamlight Valleytitled the Storybook Vale was announced in late October. This new DLC will be released in two parts, with the first part, “Welcome to the Vale”, dropping on November 20 and the second, “The Unwritten Realms”, releasing sometime in Summer 2025. Details about Unwritten Realms are few, but the character additions and features in Welcome to the Vale have been disclosed to players.
Welcome to the Vale will introduce Flynn Rider fromTangledand Merida fromBraveasDisney Dreamlight Valley’s latest heroes, while Hades fromHerculeswill serve as one of the game’s newest villains. Flynn Rider’s addition to the game was predictable consideringRapunzel, the protagonist ofTangled, was introduced inDisney Dreamlight Valley’s previous DLC, A Rift in Time. However, fans were quick to criticize Flynn Rider’s appearance once promotional images for Welcome to the Vale were released.
According to many fans, Flynn Rider looks like a Sim. This comparison is clearly meant to be a criticism of his appearance, which does look a bit off compared to how he’s portrayed inTangled. Fans have criticized the appearance of characters inDisney Dreamlight Valleypreviously. A notable instance was Belle fromBeauty and the Beast, who received such backlash that her appearance was refreshed in August. While comparisonsbetween Flynn Rider andThe Simsfranchisemay be negative, it does lead to speculation on how the game could be an inspiration forDisney Dreamlight Valleygoing forward.
Disney Dreamlight Valley Could Add a Sims-Like Mode
Currently,Disney Dreamlight Valley’s gameplay focuses on a player character interacting with the game’s roster of Disney Animation Studios and Pixar characters. Leveling up relationships with these characters, going on character specific quests, and unlocking new themed items are some of the most fun aspects of the game. However, being able to play as members ofDisney Dreamlight Valley’s character rostercould be even more fun.
WhileThe Simsdoes encourage players to create their own Sims and builds, players also have the option to choose a pre-built home or play as one of the game’s existing Townies. Unlike the characters inDisney Dreamlight Valley, Townies are not merely NPCs. Rather, players can select from these pre-made characters and live out their lives, editing their appearances or character traits as they wish.
Changing the appearance and character traits of iconic Disney characters may be a bridge too far, but playing as Mickey Mouse,Ariel fromThe Little Mermaid, or Stitch could easily be the game’s new bread and butter. Character interactions between different films and franchises occur quite frequently inDisney Dreamlight Valley, but giving players a say in certain interactions by playing as characters could be fun.
This move would radically changeDisney Dreamlight Valley’s gameplay, so it’s an unlikely feature to be added. Nevertheless, this feature could be a fun separate mode thatDisney Dreamlight Valleycould add at some point.
